HEZEKIAH SEARLES, of Clinton Township, Seneca County, Ohio, was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, in the year 1810. He removed to this County, in company with his father, in the fall of 1820. During the winter of 1820-21 they resided in the block-house at Fort Ball, on the site now occupied by part of the City of Tiffin. In the following spring his father opened a road to Eden Township. In these times the early settlers had to travel from twelve to twenty miles to get their milling done, and that, too, over rough and meandering roads. This lasted for three or four years,-until mills were erected in this County.
On the 28th of October, 1888, Mr. Searles married Eliza Ann Lambertson, a native of Pennsylvania. Six children, all boys, blessed this union. One died in infancy, and three of the others, viz., Daniel R, Alvin G., and William D., died at maturer years. Iving W. and Charles F. are still living, and are industrious young men. Mr. Searles assisted in clearing one hundred and fifty acres of land, and settled upon the same, which constituted a part of the present homestead. It is located in Section 28, Clinton Township, and is well cultivated and under excellent improvement. By industry and good management Mr. Searles has become a wel1-to-do farmer, and has always been a highly-respected citizen.
