GEORGE E. SENEY born in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, May 29, 1882. Came to Tiffin in 1834, and, having attended the "Seminary" in Norwalk, Ohio, for nearly four years, was admitted to practice in 1853, locating in Tiffin, and shortly after admitted to the Circuit Court of the United States at Columbus, Ohio. He first published the "Ohio Code" in 1860. Occupied the position of Judge of the Court of Common Pleas 1858 to 1863 ; and admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States in 1873. The merited appreciation by the members of the profession in this and other States of the "Code" as a legal band-book, and the constant accumulation of new matter, prompted him to republish it in 1874. His persevering application to the law, as a science deserving the best endeavors of a vigorous intelligence, has classed him among the best lawyers and most finished jurists of Ohio. His defeat in the Congressional campaign of 1874 by but about one hundred and seventy votes, in spite of the great and even merited popularity of Mr. Charles Foster, as an amiable gentleman, and whose acts, during a previous term, had met with such universal approval throughout the whole United States, but express the high estimation the Tenth District had of Judge Seney's abilities to fill the place.
