JOHN McCAULEY was born in Columbiana County, Ohio, December 10, 1854. He was educated in the Ohio Western University at Delaware, Ohio, finishing a classical course at that institution June 9, 1859. He was admitted to the bar in September, 1860. Mr. McCauley located in Tiffin, where he is regarded as one of the ablest attorneys of the place. He was prosecuting attorney of Seneca County from 1865 to 1869. In March, 1874, when Dr. O'Connor's place in the Constitutional Convention became vacant by death, Mr. McCauley was elected in his stead, a position he filled with great credit to his constituents. As a forensic orator, discarding all appearance of display, his vigorous, logical appeals, supported by a thorough knowledge of the law, have secured him the reputation he sustains as a member of his profession before the bar of Ohio.
