Joseph Hergenrather

JOSEPH HERGENRATHER, member of the City Council from the Third Ward, was born in Tiffin, March 13th, 1856, and has always resided here. In 1877 he engaged in the manufacture of cigars and conducted a wholesale and retail cigar store in the Seney block on Washington street. Later he continued the business at 22-24 West Market street, or until 15 years ago when he took charge of the Franklin Hotel and restaurant, which he is conducting at the present time. Mr. Hergenrather has been successful in business and has accumulated a number of valuable properties in the city, In April, 1895, he was elected a member of the City Council, as a Democrat from the Third Ward, and again re-elected in the spring of 1897. He is at present Chairman of the Parks, Public Grounds and Buildings and Loan, Contracts and Insurance Committees. For 20 years Mr. Hergenrather was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department of this city.
