
JOHN B. EHRENFRIED, the present City Clerk, was born in Bavaria, Germany, June 24th, 1845, and came to this country in August, 1847, locating in Thompson township. He came to Tiffin in April, 1873 and has since resided here. At the age of 13 he commenced the carpenter's trade; from 1862-63 he attended private school at Piqua, 0., and later attended commercial college in Tiffin, graduating in 1870. From 1864-74 he was engaged in saw milling and lumbering, buying lumber and timber throughout Seneca, Huron and Hardin counties. From 1874-76 he was engaged in carpentering; from 1876-86 he was manager of the Tiffin Manufacturing Company's Works, and from 1886-92 he, in company with A. J. Brickner, conducted a distillery. In April, 1896, he was elected City Clerk and again re-elected April, 1897. In May, 1897, he entered into the general merchandising business on the corner of Washington and Sycamore streets, associating with himself his three sons. This latter enterprise has proven a successful venture, and the firm of J. B. Ehrenfried & Sons' is already doing a prosperous business.
