MICHAEL BETTS, of Bettsville, Liberty Township, Seneca County, Ohio, was born in Centre County, Pennsylvania, January 15, 1809. He removed to the present site of Bettsville in the year 1885, the town being named after him, as being the original proprietor. On the 23d of April, 1850, he married Catherine Bish, the Rev. J. Kanagy performing the ceremony. Their offspring consists of two sons and two daughters, all of whom reside at the homestead. The farm upon which he now resides consists of one hundred and fifteen acres, just outside of the town. He also possesses a farm of three hundred and twenty acres in Sandusky County, which is mostly timber, consisting of black walnut, oak, poplar, hickory, and of several other varieties some. A portion of it is cleared and improved, containing good buildings, an orchard, etc. Mr. Betts has worked incessantly to increase the prosperity of the town, and has, in a large measure, succeeded. By good management he is quite comfortably circumstanced. He owns a fourth share in a large warehouse which has just been erected in the vicinity of the depot of the railroad. On the whole, Mr. Betts is a live citizen, held in high estimation by all who know him.
