J. C. BARTOW, of Republic, Scipio Township, Seneca County, Ohio, was born in Vermilion, Erie County, Ohio, on the 27th of July, 1829. He married Mary Ann Hosford, at Milan, Erie County, Ohio, on the 1st of May, 1849, and removed with his wife to Republic in the year following, and purchased the hotel property now known as the Bartow House, at Republic, in 1865. Three sons and one daughter have blessed their union, three of whom are still living, one son dying at the tender age of ten years. One of their sons, J. F., is now settled in Republic, having married Louisa E. Andrews, a native of Crawford County, this State. J. D., another son, married Clara Stearns, and they also reside in Scipio Township. The Bartow House has become one of the best hotels in the County, and it has always been the endeavor of the proprietor to enhance the comfort of his guests by close attention to their wants and by affording them first-class accommodations.
